A: You should contact Animal
Control:
· When you have a stray dog in
your yard or running around your neigborhood.
· If you have an encounter with
an aggressive animal.
· If you find an injured animal.
When filing a report please be
as detailed as possible.
Please be able to provide:
· Your name, address and phone
number.
· A detailed explanation of what
happened, including the address where the concern has occurred.
· As much detail as possible
concerning the animal (color, breed, sex of animal, any features that stand
out, etc).
If you know who the owner of the
animal is, please include their address and any other information that may help
us contact them.

Q: How do I report concerns
for the treatment, condition, or abandonment of an animal?
A: If you have concerns for the
treatment, condition, or abandonment of an animal, these fall under potential animal abuse and neglect. These
types of concerns are handled by the Lee County Sheriff’s office.

Q: I don’t live in the city
limits, so can I let my dog run loose ?
A: No
Q: Is there a leash law for
dogs in the county?
A: No, the rural county does not
have a leash law, the county has a confinement law.
Section 3-1-5
Permitting dogs to run at large; applicability of provisions of
section in counties and certain cities or towns.
(a) Every person owning
or having in charge any dog or dogs shall at all times confine such dog or dogs
to the limits of his own premises or the premises on which such dog or dogs is
or are regularly kept. Nothing in this section shall prevent the owner of any
dog or dogs or other person or persons having such dog or dogs in his or their
charge from allowing such dog or dogs to accompany such owner or other person
or persons elsewhere than on the premises on which such dog or dogs is or are
regularly kept. Any person violating this section shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and shall be fined not less than $2.00 nor more than $50.00.
(b) This section shall
not apply to the running at large of any dog or dogs within the corporate
limits of any city or town in this state that requires a license tag to be kept
on dogs nor shall this section apply in any county in this state until the same
has been adopted by the county commission of such county.

Q: What should I do when my
pet is missing?
A: To report a lost pet go to the
home page and click on “My Account”, create your account, then follow the
instructions. This will alert you when we bring in an animal that matches the
description you gave of your pet. Be sure to monitor the incoming found pets
just in case your description doesn’t quite match ours.
Q: How long will
Animal Control hold my lost dog?
A: Our
participating veterinarians will hold found animals for 7 days, as long as the
animal is healthy enough to do so.
Q: What can I do about the stray cats around my
house ?
A: It is
not Animal Control’s policy to pick up stray cats. We will however schedule
appointments to accept them at our office during our normal business hours. If
you are in need of a humane trap, you can contact our office for information on
how to obtain a humane loaner trap.
Q: I can no longer care for my pet, what can I
do?
A: If you
own an animal and are no longer able to take care of it you can contact the
Animal Control Office to schedule an appointment for an Owner Surrender. To
owner surrender an animal, you must be the actual owner of the animal and at
least 18 years of age. You will need to be able to provide a valid photo I. D.
(i.e., valid driver’s license etc.) and proof of residency in the Lee County
Animal Control jurisdiction.
Q:
What do I do if I'm bitten by an animal ?
A: If you
have been bitten by an animal, you should contact the office of the Lee County
Rabies Officer and seek medical attention as needed.

Q:
What do I do if there is a wild animal on my property ?
A: You should avoid the animal and keep pets and
children away from it. If the animal becomes a nuisance, please call the
